Note: of the 20 most populous states in the country, none holds a boys' state championship basketball game farther from a major population center than does Pennsylvania. In holding the championship games near the geographic center of the state, the PIAA gives equal consideration to the convenience of attending the games to, say, a student at Chester High School and to a tree in some forest in Jefferson County. The outrageously absurd location of the championship games--and the PIAA's obtuse refusal to relocate them to Hershey--means that vastly more empty seats than people will see the games live on March 23 and on March 24, as has been the case for years. What is the PIAA's real agenda in holding the state championship games in a place very poorly served by public transportation and far, far away from the major population centers of the state? Is it because the PIAA couldn't manage to secure suitable dates in arenas on Jupiter or Pluto? Or, is the PIAA--a private entity, after all--up to something else, some hidden agenda not obvious to those who would like to attend the championship games without going on a pilgrimage?
